The Wedderburn Historical Engine & Machinery Society held its first meeting on 25th March 1987
and was attended by 6 interested persons.
It was from this meeting that the club was formed which today has around 200 members from
all over Australia.
Meetings were initially held in the Korong Historical Society Building and were later moved
to its present location at the Engine Park off Racecourse Road. This is Shire land which is also
shared with the Wedderburn Mens' Shed.
The society was incorporated in August 1995 and membership is open to everyone regardless of age or sex.
The Society was credited with saving the old Gooroc State School which it now uses as a meeting room, and also
the Wedderburn Junction Railway Station which is now used as an office, and its signal gantry.
One of the major achievements of the Society is the acquisition and ongoing restoration of two Ruston & Hornsby
engines, the first of which was used by the Shire for electricity production in Wedderburn and Korong Vale between 1938 and 1950,
and the second which was donated by the Bridgewater Flour Mill.
The Society holds an annual swap meet and engine rally.
